Owners Of Nanina's In The Park And Park Savoy Estate Host Hurricane Sandy Benefit

Cheer Me Up Foundation, a New Jersey based charity whose mission is to help underprivileged and special needs children, hosted a benefit for the victims of Hurricane Sandy on January 10th at Nanina’s In the Park, one of New Jersey’s premier wedding venues, in Belleville.  All the proceeds from the event are benefiting the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, the fund set up by Governor Christie and his wife, Mary Pat.

The benefit took place during a critical time for those in need affected by Sandy. In addition, 100% of all the monies raised are going directly to the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund.  Joseph Maurillo, owner of Nanina’s in the Park, and his partners personally donated the entertainment, venue, food, liquor, and commemorative items like programs and t-shirts.  The event had zero costs, making every donation go directly to the relief fund. All the donation checks are being made payable directly to the New Jersey Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund.

Their goal was to raise over $150,000, but with the success of the event, they exceeded that goal raising over $180,000 and still counting. Besides ticketed sales to the event, additional monies were raised in a live auction the night of the event.  Among the list of items, included were 2 tickets to Super Bowl XLVIII hosted for the first time in New Jersey at Met Life Stadium in 2014, a dinner reservation at NYC landmark restaurant Rao’s, and lunch with cast members of the famed New Jersey drama, “The Sopranos”.  All the live auction items were donated from various sponsors.

The original cast of Jersey Boys, The Midtown Men, Louis Prima Jr, and The Infernos were the entertainment performers and elected officials from devastated areas were on hand to speak of the recovery efforts currently underway.  The event was emceed by Emmy award winning anchor Steve Adubato Jr. and New Jersey’s own comedian, Joe Piscopo.

Other invited guests were former Giants players Ottis “OJ” Anderson, Harry Carson, Bart Oates, and Roman Oben to name a few.  Other athletes in attendance included Rick Cerone, Gerry Cooney, and  Kenny Daneyko to just name a few. The NFL Alumni Association made a check a presentation of $10,000.  There were over 350 guests in attendance all to help the recovery efforts.   It was a great, fun night all for an important cause for the residents of the state of New Jersey.
